Dubai, United Arab Emirates (12 May, 2011): Nissan Motor Company Ltd. warned its customers against parallel imports of the Nissan LEAF.
Nissan LEAF is the first global 100 percent electric, zero-emission car launched in Japan and the United States in December 2010, and to be launched in early 2011 in Europe.
Nissan Motor Company Ltd said it strongly recommends customers not to purchase the Nissan LEAF through any unauthorized channels for various reasons, including:There may be some specifications which do not meet local regulations in this country, such as homologation and safety requirements.
1.Charging network needs to be organized across country to charge under appropriate and safety conditions to meet Nissan LEAF charging standard and importing a Nissan LEAF prior to Nissan officially commencing distribution in the country, may mean that the charging network is inappropriate for normal use of the parallel imported car. Furthermore, we can give no reassurance that the charging network will be appropriate and safe for a parallel imported car.
2.Charging system needs to be prepared to charge batteries at home or office under appropriate and safety conditions to meet Nissan LEAF charging standard. We can give no reassurance that the charging network will be appropriate and safe for a parallel imported car.
3.The Nissan LEAF purchased through any unofficial channels may not be eligible for Nissan warranty claim.
Parallel imported Nissan LEAF cannot get full service necessary for its maintenance even at Nissan dealers for the following reasons:
In order to provide customers with highest levels of performance and long-term durability, the Nissan LEAF needs to be fitted with Nissan’s genuine parts exclusively configured for this electric vehicle. Genuine parts will be available at Nissan dealers after its official launch. However, we cannot guarantee that the genuine parts required for a parallel imported car will be available.
Nissan Motor Company Ltd has developed the Nissan LEAF to deliver the best performance by matching each country’s regulations and adjusting to each feature, such as electric current condition, and then market the product accordingly. Nissan cannot guarantee that a parallel imported Nissan LEAF (i.e. a car imported outside the official distribution channel) will deliver the optimum performance as intended for this car.
Nissan Motor Company Ltd. is currently studying whether to start the import, sales and after-service of the Nissan LEAF through its official distribution channel.
Once Nissan Motor Company Ltd makes a decision, Nissan and its official distributor will arrange an exclusive service and maintenance framework to prepare for the start of sales and after-service of the Nissan LEAF.
