One-Two Debut For Nissan Gt-R In Super Series Opener
The racing model of Nissan’s GT-R super sports car has made a dream debut in the 2008 Super GT series in Japan – taking first and second places in the season-opening event watched by 32,000 spectators at the Suzuka Circuit.
Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer took the chequered flag in the Xanavi Nismo GT-R, followed home by Michael Krumm and Masataka Yanagida in the Motul Autech GT-R.
A GT-R was also chosen as the safety car to lead the formation lap for the 42 competing GT race cars.
Winner Motoyama said: “Before the race we felt a bit of pressure to make a debut win for the GT-R but believed that we could win because the car was fantastic and the team had done a great job. The combination with Benoit was also very good and we proved to be the strongest pair. I’m really happy that we won the race in the GT-R’s very first race”.
Hirtotaka Mima, Sedan Brand Manager at Nissan Middle East, described the
GT-R’s first and second positions as impressive proof of the super sports car’s abilities.
“As with all its predecessors that have worn the famous Nissan GT-R badge, this is a technological wonder car, with an extraordinary breadth of ability. The new GT-R has created extraordinary levels of excitement around the world, not least here in the Middle East where there is such keen interest in motor racing and high-performance vehicles,” said Mima.
“We are sure that everyone here is keenly following the progress of the GT-racing car in the Super GT series and that a one-two finish in the first race of the season will only heighten interest in the weeks to come.”
